General

Enhancements to NetEye Installation, Update, and Upgrade

As part of the ongoing efforts to streamline NetEye installation, update and upgrade procedures, we are pleased to announce the inclusion of Redis, ntopng, InfluxDB, ClickHouse and NATS Server in the parallel automated configuration of the NetEye services.

This update accelerates NetEye configuration processes and it is only a part of a broader, long-term strategy aimed at continuously enhancing our procedures.

Sprint Releases

From NetEye 4.39 on you will have the possibility to enable Sprint Releases, a new feature designed to enhance your experience with NetEye. Sprint Releases allow users to access the latest developed features before the official release date of the minor version, which occurs every two months. This means that as soon as a development Sprint concludes, which happens every 2 weeks, you can install the new features directly on your NetEye system, ensuring you are always up-to-date with the latest advancements.

Sprint Releases are currently available exclusively for the NetEye Master. This feature is particularly beneficial for users who want to stay ahead of the curve and leverage new functionalities as soon as they are ready. The feature that can be easily enabled in the NetEye UI, will take into account the last published Sprint Release and install it during the neteye upgrade.

However, it is important to note that while the NetEye Sprint Releases are treated as standard NetEye versions, by enabling the Sprint Releases feature you will be using a preview functionality, that does not benefit from a complete testing environment during the development phase as all the standard NetEye features. We are working to include this functionality to the stable features of NetEye and we encourage users to try this feature out and provide feedback, as your insights are very valuable in helping us refine and improve the offerings.

In summary, Sprint Releases represent a significant step forward in how you can interact with and benefit from NetEye. We are committed to providing you with the tools and features you need to succeed, and we look forward to your feedback as we continue to enhance this offering.

IT Operation Analytics – Telemetry

Upgrade of Grafana to version 11.2.1

The new version of Grafana brings some exciting updates designed to make your experience even more intuitive and efficient. One of the standout features is the enhanced canvas visualization, which now supports advanced flowcharting, new elements like clouds and parallelograms, and more flexible data linking. This makes it easier to create dynamic, visually rich dashboards.

On the alerting front, Grafana 11 introduces the “Keep Last State” feature, which ensures that your alerts hold their last known status even when there’s no new data or an error. This means fewer surprises and more reliable alerting.

The Alert Detail View has also been redesigned to make alert management clearer and more organized. You can now easily navigate alert metadata, queries, conditions, and history in a more intuitive layout. This update makes it much easier to troubleshoot and understand the behavior of each alert in detail.

Finally, Grafana 11 features a redesigned UI/UX, enhancing the overall look and feel of the platform. Whether navigating dashboards or setting up alerts, the refreshed interface is more user-friendly, offering a smoother and more efficient experience.

In addition to these highlights, the new version brings other improvements and features. You can explore the full list of updates in the official documentation.

APM – User Experience

Observability compliant with OTEL protocol

Since it is essential for external agents to be able to send OTEL traces and metrics to the NetEye Master, we have made significant enhancements to the NGINX configuration for the Elastic Agent APM server, which now fully supports the OTEL protocol.

In this release, we enabled support for HTTP/2 traffic, making the upgrade crucial as it allows for improved performance and efficiency in handling requests, which is particularly beneficial for applications that rely on real-time data processing and monitoring.

We have structured the NGINX configuration that manages Elastic APM Server traffic to support both gRPC and standard HTTP requests seamlessly. This flexibility ensures that our services can cater to a wider range of client needs without compromising on performance.

Moreover, this release sets the stage for future enhancements, as we extended similar HTTP/2 support to other services, such as the Fleet Server. This proactive approach not only aligns with industry standards but also positions our infrastructure to handle increasing traffic demands effectively.
